Would be great if adding site works automatically. Anyway, as an early-adopter, I would like to see my site(s) being added quickly. Our company works on (95%) open source projects since 1997 and it would be nice if we step into this initiative from the start.Devogel 16:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi everybody. I am browsing the site for a long time right now, but I did not find a possibility to add my own site (domain) to the wikia search engine. Can anybody tell my how I can do this?

Best gerads, Mike.

Wondering this myself, any ideas? Illuvator 07:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

No idea...admins, any suggestions? Sinepp 11:45, 7 January 2008 (GMT+1)

I'm guessing you don't have to add your site i.e. it will be indexed automatically. A site I own is already showing up in search results and I certainly didn't manually add it here. Grievous Angel 14:16, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I found a page on grub.org where it says you can add it, but the "tool" doesn't seem work: XML interface --PeterTheOne 03:47, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think it works automatically, or maybe only for us (.com) sites. I have multiple german sites, even listed in some web catalogs, but they are not listed. Maybe that helps: I added those web catalogs in the page listing in wikia.com that seems to be crawled. I am just waiting if it works...

When I searched for something that had very few listings only then did I see "Add Yourself to..." and when I clicked on it I was taken to my profile page. I am seeing what I'd call top down approach to this wikia search idea. It appears like trying to manage chaos. I want you guys to succeed. Is this a grand experiment? I thought even alphas should perform better than this. Hope you don't discourage too many people from coming back.Okfrank 21:56, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

There are suprisingly too few things coming up on searches at the moment, many of which are obvious spam sites, which need to be filtered out. There is a _lot_ of work which needs to be done on this engine yet before I'll consider it worth using. -- Illuvator 09:13, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I know this is alpha and that engine just started crawling over net but you shouldn't make this site to look as it was working fine - I saw news about this search engine and that it already works but need to be only tweaked...and from what I see it need to be tweaked a lot. If indexing just started and already has so many spam sites then it doesn't look too good, especially when consider future...I hope you will fix this engine because searching should find something - not only gather people. --TheTester 10:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Let's not get off-topic: the real point here is how to add a site to the Wikia search crawl. Since there's not (yet) a resource for that in the wikia how-to's, we'll just have to wait and see, and petition the developers for a solution. As for the "roughness" of the engine itself, I think maybe you've missed some of the point of the project: users have to contribute, rank, add mini articles, and (unfortunately) manage spam. In just a few days, the Mini Article database is far too large for any single person (or group of admins) to fully manage; it's up to the people. If you want an open-source, ad-free, user-driven, bug-free search engine ... you're going to have to pitch in. Pitching in will make you happy. --Vtmemo 14:44, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I personally hope that the ability to post your site here is allowed. ISD 19:14, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

ISD - it's allowed in that you can create a mini-article referencing your site, so long as it contains relatively unbiased information. However, I don't think there's a way to direct the search engine itself to crawl your specific domain - that is, I can't tell Wikia to index the content on www.mywebsite.com for searching. --Vtmemo 19:23, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, I think I understand now. Cheers! ISD 20:37, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
