Forum:Better search idea
I have a entry in the mailing list however I much prefare forums (must be getting old!!) anyway this is my last post to the mail list
This idea is very different from Googles search mechanism
http://www.google.com/search?q=inurl:www.cti+inurl:.com+car+sales&filter=0
I think this example below with show why unless (and this is highly likely) I do not know how to use Google, but in any case my idea is much nicer than inurl:bla inurl:bla inurl:bla as people are already used to wild card searching as it's part of DOS UNIX and windows if fact all OS's and it is a lot more logical / easier to use format.
I want to search for "computer-" ".co.uk" in this order
http://www.google.com/search?q=inurl:computer+inurl:.co.uk&filter=0
On about the ninth page it returned this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Computer-Peripherals-Cards-Accessories-Cases/b?ie=UTF8&node=561904
This is not what I'm looking for at all? Also it returned 423,000 results
This would be my search *computer-*.co.uk this would stop the above link being listed and also reduce the amount of results returned thereby making life easier.
Maybe it should be called domain name search and not URL search, is this where I am confusing people as I mean it only to work on top level domain names not page URL's unless specified I suppose. E.g.
- computer-*.co.uk*products*
Also don't forget we can use this unlike Google's search machanism
- ???computer-*.co.uk
As I rememberd there were three characters before the computer just can't remember what!
P.S. Before any says there are loads of domain name searchers from a DNS point of view these have never been integrated into a "search engine" and don't forget with my search you can always add "car" "sales" unlike DNS type searches
