Forum:Distributed search network using your computer....like SETI ?
I don't think the search network should exclusively be based on this...but why not have a
"distributed" (I think the term is) search network that uses a piece of software or
an extension to Firefox (for example) that records where the user surfs to and those
become some of the pages in the search engine database. This could have the path that
the user took through the pages retained (if they allow) to give other users navigation
clues ? See http://yacy.net/yacy/ for something like this implemented in Java...a
German search engine. DJBarney 82.19.18.55 21:49, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Agreed!!!! A master (or masters) controlling where a specific node crawls would be great. Crawled sites wouldn't be overloaded, crawling the WHOLE Internet would take much less time. Must guard against malicious nodes feeding bogus/inaccurate/propaganda-like info back. The Firefox plug-in is a great idea, but would not be sufficient by itself since it would be unlikely that ALL sites would be visited without crawling. This could be so cool.... I'm just quivering here thinking of the possibilities. JCD
- Never forget the InternetExlorer Plugin - most Users have IE. Anyway, if you want something like this, than we might respect that this will also crawl the dark web and possible crawl personal information from the user, that the user don't want. The user NEED to have the possibility to restrict the sites the crawler crawls. ie. SSL-Sites, the content of Formulars, or whole Websites. The users—that means also the complete Noobs—need the possibility to have the control.
