I've recently got a new account at Freebase. Freebase search is much like I want a semantic search to work, so I've decided to post some screenshots.
As you can see, the semantic data of Freebase is very well done. This is much like I expect Semantic Mediawiki (SMW) to work. Freebase has open APIs and the Data is licensed using a CC-BY license, so the data can get gathered from Freebase to built free applications. But Freebase itself is still at beta and not open by itself. The drawback of the closed source is mandory and therefore it won't work well for the search planned here. This means that its needed to build something similar on top of SMW. — MovGP0 20:27, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- I got an account too and I love it. It is made by MetaWeb of Danny Hillis and certainly has Danny's special touch on it. It could be nice if Jimbo Wales and Danny Hillis will get to work together on this :) --Oshani 08:40, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- The Problem is that Freebase is closed source. So this is not what Jimbo intends. 195.3.97.222 15:11, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- I just spent an afternoon at Danny's house (he's a friend) talking about Metaweb and Freebase, and even if their code is closed source (so we can't use it), as I understand it all or the bulk of their data is CC Attribution licensed, making it very interesting as a building block.----Jimbo Wales 19:59, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- There is still the problem with translations in Freebase. Currently it supports only the english language. Freebase will need probalby some additional development and/or linking to Omegawiki's Defined Meanings. — MovGP0 19:28, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- This is a example how to select the correct meaning in CognitionSearch:

- Its working similar to what I want a semantic search to be. — MovGP0 20:54, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
