Hmmm, I'm not sure if this is a good idea. What do other people think about adding a link that "searches for this search term using google" to the search results? The rationale for this is that it would make people more likely to use wikia as their default search engine - regardless of the quality of the results - since there is little effort entailed in using Google if the search results aren't good enough, but you still get the benefit of having user generated content in the mini-articles. I tend to be exceedingly lazy when searching when I'm looking for something that should have an obvious answer an am inclined to do the thing that requires least thought - since I'm generally thinking about somethign else. i think going that way would erode the whole concept of wikia-search... it's not just about those mini-articles... it's about building a transparent, community-controled and open-for-all web search alternative to a commercial giant like google! personally, i wouldn't need minipages in google to tell me what i'm searching for... i don't really need them here either, but it is a nice feature, showing that people care about the project. am i too ambitious? this is not meant to be an insult :-) good night... - The idea would be more to let people quickly click a link if the returned results were not quite good enough for whatever reason while search wikia is finding its feet. This is what people will likely do in practice anyway: the only difference is that this saves 10 seconds of irritation, and hence makes people slightly less likely to use another search engine first next time. But, certainly you are right to consider the 'marketing and political implications' of such an option. It might also be useful to add links to other search engines as well like youtube. I always find it irritating that I can't transfer search terms from one search engine to another. (Taw 22:43, 11 January 2008 (UTC))
- well, you can select another search engine from the list in firefox and press return once.
