William Henry Gates III, (born 28 October 1955), commonly known as Bill Gates, is an American entrepreneur, the world's third richest man in 2008 and chairman of Microsoft, the software company he founded with Paul Allen. He will leave day-to-day operations management in July 2008 to begin a full-time career in philanthropy, but would remain as chairman. Gates credited Buffett with influencing his decision to commit himself to charitable causes.
