Mini:SEO

SEO is a term that mostly refers to Search engine optimization as a part of marketing, but can also refer to search engine optimizers (the consultants who carry out such optimization projects).

The general aim of SEO is to improve the number and quality of visitors to a web site from "natural" search results. This is done by improving the natural listings results on search engines, the higher the listing generally the more visitors. There are several aspects of the website that need to be 'optimized' in order to gain satisfactory results.

Search engines pull information from different sources in order to determine search engine ranking positions. Generally we can say, Google consider Relevancy and Popularity of a webpage to determine the Ranking. Content, Title tag, Headings are examples of Relevancy factors and BackLinks, PageRank are examples for popularity measures. From experience experts are figured that there are hundreds of factors have direct or indirect influences on determining ranks.

Another meaning of Search engine optimization could be the cooperation between Search Engines, Users, Sites and other interested parties to enhance the quality of Search Engines. The big 3 Search Engines established Webmaster Tools (Yahoo calls them Siteexplorer) for Webmasters to communicate in a structured way with the Engines. Other ways are Costum Search Engines, Coop and Labels or the user and community driven approach of Wikia Search.
