Scientology is a body of beliefs created by US author L. Ron Hubbard who described it as an applied religious philosophy and the basis for a new religion. He also described the "religious" basis as "strictly for tax advantages." It encompasses a spiritual rehabilitation philosophy and techniques, and purports to cover topics such as morals, ethics, detoxification, education and management.
