Search engine optimization, also known as SEO is the technique of making websites as relevant as possible for search terms that searchers might be querying at search engines such as Google, Yahoo, ASK and Live.
Search engine optimization starts out with performing keyword research to find the most appropriate phrases that people use at search engines, and then utilizing those phrases within the website in such a way as to make it relevant for those phrases on a page by page basis.
Additionally, relevant keyword phrases should be utilized within the Title tags, as well as within the overall body copy of the page.
Using keyword phrases within the anchor text (the clickable words in a link) is also an important place for them when optimizing, as those areas tell both search engines and users what the resulting page is all about.
Off page criteria is also important in search engine optimization in that search engines place emphasis on the overall popularity of any page as compared to other pages on the Web. The idea is that the most popular (best) pages will be linked to by other pages, and therefore, the number and quality of links pointing to any webpage is taken into account by search engines.
