[edit] Regarding the project
Users might expect (or not) that...
- Wikia Search is there to stay.
- The core and "behind-the-scenes" project members are working on the project.
- There is reasonable evidence that the project members are active. Users know that a lot of work obviously has been done. However, users are notoriously impatient brats (;-), they want some sign of life, even the smallest one, at least every week or so. This is important as long as Wikia Search is not governed publicly.
- The project members read every change on the wiki. This is not feasible. See the FAQ about where to discuss what.
- The project members read the bug reports and act upon them. Some users might even expect evidence.
- The project members read the feature requests and act upon them. Some users might even expect evidence.
- There is evidence of some kind of plan, some kind of schedule.
- There is a published plan.
[edit] Expectations regarding the wiki
Regarding the wiki, the perceived or explicit policies that the articles are governed by are part of the expectations. Part of shaping expectations is setting these policies. These policies are only developing now.
It appears that the project owners' intent is to let the users themselves develop these policies. However, if this is true, the project owners need to state this clearly, unmistakably.
The current state of the art is documented at policies and guidelines.
In contrast to Wikipedia, Wikia, including the Wikia Search project is a commercial entity. Wikia Search is not governed the same way that Wikipedia is. The project owners need to make statements to this end. How is it governed now, legally and effectively? How is it going to be governed in the future, legally and effectively?
Contributors invest significant amounts of time into the wiki. For this, they expect something back:
- The ability to use the contributions for free, for themselves and others.
- Service, Stability, Availability
- Longevity
The project owners need to make statements to this end, both commitments and limitations. For example: "We are going to host the wiki for at least two months from now, for free."
