search:Disambiguation
Disambiguation in Wikia_Search (edit) is the process of resolving conflicts in article titles that occur when a single term can be associated with more than one topic, making that term likely to be the natural choice of title for more than one article. In other words, disambiguations are paths leading to the different article pages that could use essentially the same term as their title.
One method of covering more than one meaning of a term is to create an article based on the main meaning of the term, for example "New York" when it refers to the city and then add a link to another article on New York when it refers to the state. This could be called New York State.
Another way of dealing with the problem is to prepare an article specifically listing the various meanings of a term and providing links to separate articles on each one of them. For example, the word "Mercury" can refer to several different things, including: an element, a planet, an automobile brand, a record label, a NASA manned-spaceflight project, a plant, and a Roman god. Common sense should also be used in deciding which of these will be targeted by a one-word search and which would normally be searched for by using more than one word, for example "Ford Mercury". If the latter is the case, then it may not be necessary to write a separate article on, say, "Mercury cars".
